What is Structured data?
Structured data is a block of machine-readable facts added to a web page, in a shared format called schema.org, so that Google and AI assistants can read what the page is about without guessing: the business name, address, opening hours, services, prices, and answers to common questions.
What it means for a small service business
Two plumbers can have identical websites to a human, and only one has told the machines "this is a plumber, here is the area covered, here are the prices". That one gets the rich result, the map entry and the AI mention. It is invisible on the page, it is a few dozen lines of code, and almost no small-business website has it.
