Where does this information come from?

Companies House, the UK register of companies, read live at the moment you check. Every UK limited company, LLP and PLC is on it by law, and its filings are public. This page puts the record into words a buyer can use; the full record is one click away.

What does it mean if a company is not on the register?

Either it is not a limited company (sole traders and ordinary partnerships are not registered and can be perfectly genuine), or the name you typed is different from the registered name, or it does not exist as a company. Try the exact name from their invoice or website footer, or the company number, which every limited company must show on its website.

What should worry me?

Dissolved means the company no longer exists, so anyone trading under its name is not that company. Overdue accounts or an overdue confirmation statement are early signs of a business under strain or badly run, though not proof. Many resigned directors in a short time, or a registered office where post is returned, are worth a question.

Does a clean record mean a good tradesperson?

No. It means a real company with its paperwork in order, which is the baseline. It says nothing about the quality of the work. For that, check their reviews on Google, their trade registrations where the trade has one (Gas Safe, NICEIC and so on), and their insurance.

Why does my own company show something I did not expect?

The register shows what has been filed. If a director, address or filing date looks wrong, it needs correcting at Companies House, because buyers, lenders and AI assistants all read this record as the truth about your business.

Does Sydex keep any of this?
