What is SERP?
SERP is the industry’s name for a search engine results page: everything Google shows after a search. It now includes ads, an AI Overview, the map pack, featured snippets, "people also ask" boxes, images and, somewhere below, the ordinary links.
What it means for a small service business
When someone says "you rank third", the question is third in what. Third in the ordinary links is often below the fold behind ads, the overview and the map. Knowing what the page looks like for your searches is more useful than any single ranking number.
