What is Sitemap?
A sitemap is a file on a website, usually at /sitemap.xml, that lists every page the owner wants search engines to know about, with the date each was last changed. Google reads it to find pages faster and to notice updates.
What it means for a small service business
Small websites often have no sitemap or one left over from an old build, still listing pages that were deleted years ago. It costs nothing and it is the difference between Google finding a new page in a day or in a month.
Does your business need to do anything about Sitemap?
Yes. It is one file, it should be submitted in Search Console once, and it should be regenerated whenever pages change.
