What is Meta title and description?
The meta title is the text Google shows as the blue clickable link for a page, and the meta description is the line or two beneath it. Neither appears on the page itself. Together they decide whether someone clicks your result or the one below it.
What it means for a small service business
Old websites usually have "Home" as the title of the homepage and no description at all, so Google writes one from whatever it finds. A title that says the trade, the town and something worth clicking earns more visits from the same ranking.
