Domain

Your web address, and who really owns it.

UPDATED 3 SEPTEMBER 2026

What is Domain?

A domain is the address of a website, such as yourbusiness.co.uk. It is rented yearly from a registrar, and whoever holds the registrar account controls it: where it points, whether it renews, and whether the business can ever move it.

What it means for a small service business

A remarkable number of small businesses do not own their domain. An old web company registered it, in their own account, and the business pays them for it. If that company folds or falls out with you, the address your customers know can vanish. Getting it back is a Sydex pitch section more often than not.

Does your business need to do anything about Domain?

Yes: know which account it is in, whose card renews it, and get it into your own name if it is not.
