The money words

Domain ownership

Whose name the web address is really in.

UPDATED 3 SEPTEMBER 2026

What is Domain ownership?

Domain ownership means whose account and card the domain is registered under, which is the only thing that counts. The registrant name on the record should be the business; the login should be the owner’s; the renewal should be on the business’s card. Anything else is a hostage situation waiting for a falling-out.

Does your business need to do anything about Domain ownership?

Yes, today: find the account, confirm the name, move the renewal to your card.
