What is CMS?
A CMS (content management system) is software such as WordPress that stores a website’s pages in a database and lets people edit them through a login. It is the most common way small-business websites are built, and the most common reason they are slow, out of date or hacked.
What it means for a small service business
A CMS promises that you can edit the website yourself. In practice most owners never do, and the plugins, updates and logins become someone’s unpaid job until they are neglected. The question is whether you actually want an editor, or a website that is simply kept right by someone.
Does your business need to do anything about CMS?
Only if you will genuinely edit pages weekly. Otherwise a static website with a care plan is simpler and safer.
