What is Alt text?
Alt text is the short description attached to an image in a page’s code. Screen readers speak it to blind visitors, Google reads it to understand the picture, and browsers show it when an image fails to load. A decorative image should carry an empty one on purpose.
What it means for a small service business
Twenty photos of your work with no descriptions are invisible to Google and to a partially sighted customer. "Rewired kitchen, Leyland, 2026" on each takes minutes and does both jobs.
Does your business need to do anything about Alt text?
