How it works

Three steps. No chasing.

1 · Tell us the job

Form, phone or text: postcode and what needs doing is enough. Within one working hour you'll have either a fixed price or a time we'll come and look.

2 · Fixed price, in writing

By text and email, held for 60 days. Say yes when you're ready and pick a date that suits from our live diary.

3 · Done, tidied, certified

We turn up when we said, dust-sheet everything, hoover before we leave, and any certificate is issued the same day. Then we ask you to tell Google how it went.

Door won't shut? Break-in damage? Rotten decking board? The small jobs matter too. Board-ups and making-safe done same day; everything else priced from a photo, usually the same evening.

What customers say.

★★★★★
Wardrobes across a full wall with a sloped ceiling nobody else would touch. The drawing showed exactly what we'd get, the price never moved, and the spray finish looks factory-made.

Media wall with a fire recess. Rick drew three versions until we were happy, then built it in four days. Came back a year later, unasked, and adjusted a door that had settled. Who does that?

Six doors hung in a day, all eased and furnished, dust sheets down, hoovered after. Priced from photos the night I enquired.

Services

Drawn first. Priced fixed. Made once.

Every job starts with a measure and a scale drawing. You approve the drawing and the exact price together, pay 25% for materials, and nothing gets cut until you've said yes. If we open up a wall and find surprises, we stop, show you, and re-quote before carrying on.

Built-in furniture

Wardrobes, alcove units, media walls, window seats, under-stair storage, home offices. Sprayed in the workshop, fitted in days.

Doors & trim

Doors hung and eased, skirting, architrave, panelling. The finish work that makes a room look done.

Staircases

Refurbishments, new spindles and handrails, full replacements in oak and ash. Drawn and priced before a single spindle moves.

Kitchens

Supplied-and-fit or fit-only, scribed to walls that were never straight. Worktops, end panels, the lot.

Garden timber

Decking, gates, pergolas, sheds, in treated timber that lasts. Annual re-oil offered so it keeps looking right.

Repairs & small jobs

Sticking doors, broken spindles, rotten boards, break-in board-ups. Priced from a photo, usually same evening.

Our work

Jobs we're proud of. Proof, not promises.

A gallery like this does two things a slogan can't: shows a buyer exactly the standard they'll get, and gives Google and the AI assistants real evidence to judge the business by. In your build, every frame below is a photo of your actual jobs, captioned like these.

Every job here is written up the way buyers search: what it was, where, and the detail that mattered. That's what makes a gallery pull work instead of just sitting there.

About us

Rick, Cal, and a workshop that smells of oak.

Rick Walmsley served his time on site and set up the Croston workshop in 2008. Cal joined as an apprentice in 2022 and is now doing the spray finishing. Small on purpose: the person who measures and draws your job is the person who makes and fits it.

A real workshop

Machinery, spray booth and a timber store on Moor Road. Your furniture is built and finished here, not assembled from boxes in your bedroom.

Insured, properly

£5m public liability and tool cover. Documents available on request without a fuss, because you should be asking every trade for them.

Local, actually

Croston born and based. If a job's too far or not our thing, we'll say so and point you at someone good.

Straight answers

The questions we get every week.

How much do fitted wardrobes cost?
From £1,800 for a two-door alcove build; a typical three-door runs £2,400 to £3,200; a full wall with sloped ceilings more. Made to measure and sprayed in our workshop, and you approve a scale drawing with the exact price before anything is cut.
How much is a media wall?
A built media wall with shelving and a TV recess is typically £1,900 to £3,200 depending on size and whether there's a fire recess. Electrics for the fire are done by our regular electrical partner and shown as their own line on the quote.
What does a joiner charge per day?
Round here £200 to £280 a day. But we rarely work day rate: almost everything is a fixed price from an approved drawing, so the number can't drift while you're not looking.
Do I pay a deposit?
25% on drawing approval, which buys the timber and materials. Balance on completion when you're happy. Bigger jobs get staged payments, all set out in writing before we start.
MDF or solid wood?
Painted built-ins are usually best in moisture-resistant MDF: stable, and takes a sprayed finish beautifully. Solid oak and ash are for stairs, worktops and anything where you want the grain. We recommend what suits the job, not what makes us more.
Will doors and built-ins move over time?
Timber settles with the seasons, so sometimes yes. That's why every job includes a free settle-in visit at 12 months: we adjust anything that's moved and re-oil external timber while we're there.
Do you charge for quotes?
No. Measures, drawings and quotes are free, in writing, and hold for 60 days.
